Raymond Hicks was accused of trafficking 350 kilos of cocaine, but ultimately the jury acquitted him due to lack of evidence. This came at significant expense for taxpayers, with Hicks estimating the figure at $2 million. Even after this, he faced harassment and further false charges, possibly due to a civil case he had filed against the police. Again though, Hicks was acquitted due to clear lack of evidence. Despite these challenges, Hicks managed to make a positive contribution in his community, helping several individuals, including his mother and brother, earn their high school diplomas and GEDs.
