Hector Berrellez, author of the book "The Last Narc" and former Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent, has opened up about his motivations for writing the book. Berrellez stated that his primary motivation was a promise made to his father, to reveal the truth about the murder of fellow DEA agent Enrique Camarena. Berrellez chose to share the story in a book and through the Amazon documentary series "The Last Narc," rather than participate in the Netflix series "Narcos", claiming it portrayed a creatively written, untrue version of events. Through his book and the Amazon series, Berrellez intends to convey the truth about the involvement of the Central Intelligence Agency in alleged drug trafficking and Camarena's murder — allegations that sparked controversy and reportedly led to the delay in the release of the Amazon series due to resistance from the DEA.
