Vlad believed Lanez to be guilty from the onset, dismissing his defense that it was Kelsey, another individual, who had shot Megan. Calboy found it confusing that Lanez would apologize to Kelsey if he believed her to be the shooter and expressed disbelief towards Lanez's denial of the incident, and his defense team claiming that Megan had stepped on glass rather than been shot. According to Vlad, the surgeon who operated on Megan testified about removing bullet fragments from her feet during the trial.
