Initially signed with the New York Jets as a defensive end, he was sent to play at Lincoln Center in London for the World League before returning to the US to train with the Carolina Panthers. However, his contract with the Panthers was not renewed. Using the money he had earned, he purchased a house in Chino Hills and launched his own business – Big Ballers Training. His wife, a schoolteacher, provided the family with steady income while his fluctuated due to the business. Lavar also discussed their three sons – Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo – who were all born close together. Despite having a large family himself, Lavar mentioned they had only three children due to several miscarriages suffered by his wife.
