Nicholas Irving expressed his disillusionment with his military service. Having done six deployments, Irving witnessed first-hand the grim consequences of his actions and the political games behind the scenes. After numerous experiences with top officials (including Joe Biden and Dick Cheney), he concluded that those directing the war efforts were more invested in protecting financial interests than human lives. This perception, combined with witnessing the ongoing cyclical trend of eradication and reappearance of 'number one bad guys,' led him to question the validity of his actions and the true purpose of the war. Upon analyzing the political atmosphere and the implications of his actions on future generations, Irving concluded that these wars only served to fuel hatred towards America as they often inflict collateral damage on innocent families – a perception that cannot be eradicated through warfare.
