Michael Corleone Blanco recently detailed the rise of his mother, Griselda Blanco, to become the "Queen of Cocaine" in Miami. The family, originally from Columbia, returned to the U.S. via Mexico when he was a year old, with the help of lawyers and considerable personal wealth. Once in Miami, Griselda began to release base cocaine she had obtained from her Peruvian and Bolivian connections. Through strategies like involving Cubans as corner dealers and mimicking her operations as done in New York, she managed to establish a stronghold in the Miami market. In the process, Griselda also bought significant amounts of real estate in choice areas of Miami. These operations grew to massive scales, earning her upwards of a billion dollars and a team comprising 5,000 art dealers and 1,500 people on payroll from Miami to LA. Blanco recalls that almost everyone, including judges and cops, worked for his mother.
