This occurred after the couple broke up shortly after Arenas had proposed around Govan's birthday. He hatched a plan to get the expensive item back by purchasing a fake ring, rekindling their relationship and switching the rings when the opportunity presented. Govan did not notice the swap and only realized she had a fake when Arenas posted a photo of the original on social media years later, which led to a lawsuit. Arenas maintained that the money saved from the expensive ring allowed him to cover legal costs over multiple court proceedings with Govan.
