Hip-hop pioneer Busy Bee shared his journey on VladTV, recalling how he became the culture's first solo MC, setting the stage for the art form's evolution. Growing up in the South Bronx during the ‘60s and ‘70s, Busy Bee first encountered early hip-hop sounds in 1977, inspired by Grandmaster Flash’s crew and their innovative mic routines. Unlike others who performed as groups, he forged his own path across town to avoid accusations of copying, carving out a unique style. Busy Bee also reminisced about Keith Cowboy, Flash’s friend who famously coined the term “hip-hop,” highlighting the organic development of the culture. He recalled joining forces with Gene and other early MCs, becoming part of hip-hop's foundational era.
