Army sniper Nicholas Irving shared his perspective on the tragic shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Irving described the shooter as “deranged” and noted that his initial impression was that the assailant was probably not Black. Irving emphasized that he didn’t consider the shooter’s political affiliation, dismissing the tendency to immediately label the attacker as a left or right-wing extremist. He criticized the quick politicization of the event and condemned hate-driven assumptions, including threats targeting historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) following the incident. Irving highlighted the broader problem of political animosity in America, likening it to a “gang mentality” that divides communities and fuels hostility. For Irving, being a good human transcends political labels. He expressed frustration over the increasing violence tied to politics and called for a focus on community service rather than partisan identification, urging people to reject hate and division.
