At 21, while enjoying the high of recording and touring, Velez found herself pregnant with her boyfriend Charlie—unaware he was married with children. Feeling immense pressure from her family, especially her mother, Gloria decided to have an abortion despite her own reservations. The decision was heart-wrenching; she described crying after the procedure and dealing with conflicting feelings, as Charlie later expressed regret. Gloria also recounted the shocking moment she discovered Charlie’s secret marriage while he was hospitalized, which caused tension but didn’t end their relationship.
