--------
In a recent interview, former Army Ranger sniper Nicholas Irving weighed in on the newly reported memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran, signed remotely around mid-July. While former President Trump characterized the deal as a win for America—citing renewed oil movement and the avoidance of a wider war—Iran also claimed victory, pointing to eased sanctions and increased oil revenue.
Irving strongly rejected the idea that the U.S. “won.” He argued that America entered the conflict with clear objectives, including weakening Iran’s military capabilities and pressuring the regime, but ultimately failed to complete them. Instead, he said, the deal appears to allow Iran to retain ballistic missile capabilities while also benefiting financially.
Irving also questioned the value of the ceasefire, claiming attacks have continued despite the agreement. To him, the deal was less a victory than an effort to “save face” and return to the status quo.
