‘I’ve Never Seen Anything Like It,’ Says New York Funeral Director About COVID-19 Death Toll

Mark is a third-generation funeral director in Yonkers, New York. He says virtually everything about the death care industry has changed since the novel coronavirus pandemic began.

“The funeral homes can’t absorb the amount of people passing away,” he says, noting the hundreds of individuals who died daily in the New York area during the peak of the pandemic there.

“And it’s trickled down,” he continues, adding, “The crematories – they’re closing down, opening up every other day, or by appointment only.”

Mark says his workload is so heavy that he is putting in 15 to 20-hour days just to keep up, and turning away families in need because he is past the limits of what he can do.

“I’ve never seen anything like it in my life,” he says in the video above.
