Johnson argued fresh polls should be held after parliament backed a bill designed to rule prevent the UK from leaving the EU on October 31 without a deal on the terms of Brexit. Johnson has now chalked up a record number of parliamentary defeats for a new British prime minister - and is facing huge obstacles to pressing on with his Brexit strategy.
