0:58Now PlayingIn the annual press freedom ranking compiled by Reporters Without Borders, Belarus has for years occupied one of the last 30 places of the 180 countries listed. Following massive protests against ruler Alexander Lukashenko, hundreds of media professionals were arrested in Belarus in 2020 and 40 were sentenced to several years in prison. Many journalists have left the country. One of them is Maria Savushkina, who has been threatened several times by the Belarusian secret service (KGB) and now runs the successful satirical media project ChinChin from Berlin.
