4:41Now PlayingFears of a wider war are growing as Iran threatens Israel with a broad counterstrike for the killing of Hamas' top political leader Ismail Haniyeh. Tehran blames Israel for assassinating the Hamas leader on its soil, where he was attending the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Israel has neither claimed responsibility for Haniyeh's death nor denied it.
The United States has announced it is sending additional fighter jets to the region along with an aircraft carrier to help defend Israel.
The US, the UK and other governments have urged their citizens to leave Lebanon as soon as possible. The US embassy in Lebanonhas told its citizens to leave on "on any ticket available" after several airlines suspended and cancelled flights to Beirut. The UK government has also told British nationals to "leave now."
