Racist remarks at this week's Trump rally in New York caused an uproar especially a comedian labelling Puerto Rico as an island of trash. President Joe Biden's responding gaffe, calling Trump supporters garbage, caused even more trouble.
That prompted Republican nominee Donald Trump taking to the campaign trail in Wisconsin in a garbage truck. The former president has been campaigning in key swing states as well as his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris. Both candidates have accused each other of sowing division.
Covert Russian influence has deeply affected the 2016 US presidential election, undermining many voters' confidence that their elections were safe from foreign meddling. In the years since, US authorities claim they have learned lessons and are better equipped to deal with the threat. But they also warn that Russia hasn't backed off. Other countries are trying their hand at bending US voters to their will, too.
