18:35Now PlayingEver since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian officials of orchestrating the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil in 2023, Delhi has rejected the claim and demanded to see the evidence. Ottawa has denied a direct link to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi or other cabinet members but said diplomats from the Indian embassy in Canada had gathered intelligence on Sikh separatists in the country. The allegations that Indian "agents" killed the Canadian citizen who was a leader in the Khalistan Sikh separatist movement led to a dramatic deterioration in relations between the two countries. Both sides have expelled top diplomats.
In 2024 Canadian authorities indicted three Indian men for Nijjar’s murder.
