9:07Now PlayingUS President Donald Trump has signed an executive order, slashing funding to public broadcasters PBS and NPR. He accuses them of 'bias'. It comes as the watchdog Reporters Without Borders publishes its press freedom index, which shows 'an alarming deterioration' in the US under President Trump. The situation has also worsened elsewhere. The group released this map showing how countries rank in terms of press freedom. Those shaded in green - in northern Europe - did the best. But the number of top performers has decreased since last year. The report says rising instability around the world, growing authoritarianism in certain countries and above all economic pressure are taking a huge toll on press freedom. The list of worst-ranked countries grew dramatically from last year, from 36 to 52. Most in Asia and the Middle East. China, Russia, Turkey and Iran are among those who did the poorest. The United States is part of the downward trend, slipping two points within the 'problematic' category. That's in part due to the Trump administration limiting press access to the White House and the president's lawsuits against media companies.
