13:32Now PlayingA German court has sentenced a Syrian doctor to life in prison for crimes against humanity, as well as murder, torture and war crimes. Alaa M. was found to have tortured opponents of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad while working at a military prison and hospitals in Syria. He arrived in Germany in 2015 and worked as a doctor, before he was arrested in 2020 after being recognized by his victims in a TV documentary. Germany has tried several Assad officials under the legal principle of universal jurisdiction.
