6:37Now PlayingAs drones and missiles continue to rain down on Ukrainian cities, Russia's summer offensive is making slow gains on the ground. While both armies continue to clash in skirmishes across the entire length of the 12-hundred-kilometer front line,
the fighting is especially intense in two regions. Near Sumy in Ukraine's northeast, Russia has tens of thousands of soldiers deployed. Their operations are generally viewed as an attempt to keep Ukrainian forces stretched thin.
Further south, Russian ground operations remain focused on the strategic railway city of Pokrovsk and neighboring Kostiantynivka. Russian soldiers have been attacking there relentlessly, trying to drive a wedge between Ukrainian positions.
