7:20Now PlayingGerman Chancellor Friedrich Merz has arrived in London where he is expected to sign a friendship treaty between Germany and Britain. It's Merz's first official visit to the UK since becoming chancellor. He is due to meet with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The visit is intended to strengthen bilateral ties, especially on security. It is understood that the Anglo-German agreement will include a mutual assistance clause, whereby each country will come to the other's defense in the event of an attack. It will also focus on reducing trade barriers and bolstering school exchange programmes.
