6:49Now PlayingThe foreign ministers of 24 countries have issued a joint statement calling for a flood of aid to be allowed into Gaza. The statement -- which was not signed by Germany -- points out that the suffering in the territory has reached unimaginable levels, and that "famine is unfolding before our eyes". It calls on Israel to allow more aid into the territory, and to allow humanitarian organizations to operate there.
Meanwhile, emergency services say Israel has intensified strikes on Gaza City, where
the militant group Hamas claims a million people are sheltering. Israel's Security Cabinet recently approved plans to seize the city. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he expects the new offensive to be completed “fairly quickly,” but has given no timeline.
