0:47Now PlayingFrom AI-generated endings in Raanjhanaa to voice cloning in blockbusters like Kalki 2898 AD, here’s how AI is changing Bollywood.
Be it Saiyyara or Raanjhanaa – AI has officially made its entry into Bollywood. Raanjhanaa has been re-released with an AI-generated alternate ending. And Saiyaara’s writers ran out of ideas, so they asked ChatGPT. And it’s not stopping at storylines, AI’s impact on voiceover artists is huge!
What used to be a long dubbing process with professional voiceover artists can now be done faster, in more languages – and for less money – with AI.
But at the cost of voiceover artists’ jobs, some say their work load has dropped from 15 or 20 projects a month to just 6 or 7. All of this is happening without any laws in India to stop or regulate it. Unions like the AVA are pushing for awareness, but many believe it’ll take collective action – like Hollywood’s 2023 actors strike – to truly protect artists. So, where do we draw the line? Which jobs should AI never touch?
