Russia's military has made the front-line city a primary objective due to its location at the center of major roads and railways. Russia is pushing to capture as much of the eastern Donbas region as it can before agreeing to any peace deal. Russian officials say Pokrovsk is about to fall to Russia. Yet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has denied that his troops are surrounded.
