Landlord Fraud is Poisoning Baltimore's Children

In the city of Baltimore, lead paint poising has been covered as if it is an issue bound to history books. Lead paint was banned in construction federally in the early 1970s, but in Baltimore it was banned before that, in 1950. Yet 75 years later, children in Baltimore are still getting lead in their blood due to the toxic paint covering the walls in their homes. The recent sentencing of a criminal private housing inspector, Rodney Barkley, who submitted at least 1,400 false lead inspection certificates has only exposed the issue more. As this fraud from derelict landlord endangers the health of families all over the city, and wider Maryland. We explore this issue, how it has affected those in the city, and legislation before the Baltimore city council that attempts to address some of these issues as we talk to residents, housing experts, and those on the city council.
