1:29Now PlayingREXBURG -- STANDUP: I’m Natalia Hepworth in Rexburg at the new Walmart which hasn’t officially opened, but today EastIdahoNews.com gets an official sneak peak.
VO: We can't show you the whole store, but here... close to the front... will be fresh produce and baked goods.
This is where canned goods will be placed...just one aisle in the massive 185,000 square foot building...
And, if you hate long lines l, self-checkout aisles will save you some time.
SOT: “We’ll offer a lot more variety than what we do now. We’ll have fresh meat, fresh bakery, fresh deli department which we don’t offer in the current facility. Plus a fuel station, and an auto care center,” Bullard says.
VO: The new store will have a vision center with doctor on site.
It's more than double the size of the old location and you'll notice how nice and roomy it feels.
SOT: “Right now it’s difficult to shop in the other store because it’s so tight,” Bullard said. “Students come in and the locals avoid the store. They basically stay away from down town. This way we’ll be able to accommodate a lot of that,” Bullard says.
VO: Folks in the upper valley and many others have waited years for a new Walmart...and they're counting down the minutes until opening day.
SOT: “Usually there’s a lot of stuff (at the current Walmart) that’s out of stock, so with the (new) Walmart I’m hoping there will be a lot more things to get,” BYU-Idaho Student Shayna Elliot said.
VO: For those BYUI students other locals without a car, a new shuttle service will offer rides multiple times a day.
