East Idaho Eats: Dixie's Diner takes customers back in time

IDAHO FALLS -- VO: Real jukeboxes, 50’s memorabilia, and that All American red and white interior – Dixie’s diner is taking its customers back in time.

SOT: “People love this kind of stuff,” Owner Tom Hersh says.

VO: Owner Tom Hersh has always enjoyed the nostalgia of the 50’s and 60’s, and says Dixie’s is crossing generational lines.

SOT: “We have the people that say, ‘oh I grew up in a place like this,’ and then we have people that weren’t even born in the 50’s that come in and say this is just so much fun and so cool,” Hersh said.

VO: Hersh says the menu options at Dixie’s changes every once in a while, but for the most part the food choices remain steady. He says the most popular items on the menu are…

SOT: “Anything made with corned beef because we make our own corned beef, like our Reuben sandwiches and our corned beef combos,” Hersh says.

STAND UP: Today I’m going to try the corned beef combo it has house made corned beef, coleslaw, and Thousand Island dressing on marbled rye bread. If you want to try something a little different order the Reuben, which has sour croute instead of coleslaw.

VO: Hersh says the entire menu including breakfast is available all day.

SOT: "Breakfasts are always consistently good. That’s why I come here, the hash browns are always good,” customer Steve Brown says.

VO: Owners wants anyone that comes to Dixie’s to not only enjoy the food and step back into the 50’s but to feel at home.

SOT: “It’s the kind of place that as soon as you walk in you’re going to feel like a regular,” Hersh says.
