The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local man gift more than $500,000 this holiday season. A lot more. Secret Santa is a real person who wants to remain anonymous and hopes to help as many people as he can.
We will be surprising deserving people and families every day from now until Christmas with gifts unique to their circumstances.
Hilary and Rob Witt have been married for 25 years and have two sons. Around ten years ago, Rob started having health problems. It has continued to deteriorate and nobody can figure out what's wrong with him.
Rob has been tested for strokes, ALS, brain tumors - you name it. He is now housebound and cannot walk or do anything without assistance. His speech is slurred and he falls a lot. The last decade has consisted of hundreds of doctor appointments, including the Mayo Clinic, and still no hard diagnosis.
Hilary has been the sole breadwinner of the family working at Cabela's. His illness has been hard financially and emotionally. Because there is no diagnosis, Hilary cannot get the help that Rob needs. He cannot be left alone and the assistance she receives only allows someone to come in twice a week for one hour at a time to help get Rob lunch and take him to the bathroom.
Rob is a big guy at 6'3 and needs trained professionals to be able to come in and help but Hilary is doing it herself. She never asks for help and keeps her head up through it all.
Secret Santa was impressed with the Witts story and asked the East Idaho News elves to take her a special gift at work. Watch the video above to see what happened!
