6:08Now PlayingEastIdahoNews.com is highlighting different careers, and today, I’m ‘Workin’ It’ at Zoo Idaho in Pocatello.
Zoo Idaho, located at 2900 South 2nd Avenue, is what Director Peter Pruett, described as an “indigenous zoo.” The zoo only hosts animals from the Intermountain West, and works directly with Fish & Game to house rescued animals.
“We don’t breed. We don’t purchase. We only bring in animals that couldn’t thrive in the wild,” Pruett said.
I started out the day at the zoo’s barnyard, where I helped clean up the animals’ corral. I also learned that I didn’t know the proper technique for holding a rake and shovel.
Then we went up to the top of the zoo, where Shelby Maris taught me how to take care of the resident Grizzly Bear, Shoni.
Thank you to Zoo Idaho for teaching us more about what they do to ensure a happy life for the animals in their care.
