The Evergreen State College June 9th Hullabaloo: When the Confused Collide

Here is some footage of the peculiar state of Evergreen at the moment, shot on the afternoon of June 9th. Some Christian fundamentalist sectarian folks came to speak on campus and hold up their signs, and a growing number of students showed up to yell over them and drown out their voices. Eventually the scene escalated and one student who became aggressive was arrested. Students argued with the police and shouted slurs and challenging words to them. This all lasted about 2 and a half hours. You are welcome to use this footage for anything you'd like.

The three protestors with the signs were foolish, but under scrutiny, the behavior of the counter-protestors was even more puerile. At 21:17 the protestor who had shouted the most and came off as the most righteous and collected slips in "No more tolerance. No more tolerating letting these guys come in here." And at 1:51 the boy with the megaphone remarking that what he was doing was "fun" was particularly interesting. The June 2017 issue of the "Works in Progress" social justice newspaper in piles all over campus and in Olympia features an article about the Olympia May Day protest fiasco written by the "Black Autonomy Action Faction", an anarchist group, which states "We also aimed to show through our actions that the police are not omnipotent and all powerful, that we are not powerless, that we can attack and get away with it... You, too, can get together with your friends, dress in black, and throw rocks at cops. Maybe try it sometime, it's fun..." I put this just to show what febrile ideas are gaining a greater and greater foothold on the Evergreen Campus.
