On December 12, with the whole world watching, Harnaaz Sandhu became the third Indian woman to win this prestigious title. And what a proud moment it was for Indians in and outside the country. However, before Harnaaz, it was Lara Dutta who won the title back in 2000, at a time when India was having a dream run at beauty pageants, having also won Miss World and Miss Asia Pacific International titles. An Sushmita Sen was crowned the first Miss Universe in 19994.
