1:44Now PlayingSawaan Kumar Tak, the director, producer, writer and lyricist behind several Bollywood blockbusters, passed away today. Sawan Kumar's nephew Navin Kumar Tak confirmed to ETimes that the veteran breathed his last at a hospital in Mumbai at 4pm today. He suffered a heart failure and lung-related ailments too. The celebrated artist had been in a critical condition for the past few days and was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. Sawan Kumar marked his directorial debut with 'Gomti Ke Kinare'. The film released in 1972 and featured Meena Kumari and Mumtaz in lead roles. As a filmmaker, he introduced talented actors like Sanjeev Kumar and Mehmood Junior aka Naeem Sayyed to the industry. Some of his other notable works include writing lyrics for Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Sanam Bewafa, Sajan Bina Suhagan, Souten, amoung others. Salman Khan, who has closely worked with the filmmaker, took to social media, to share an unseen throwback picture. Alongside the photograph, he wrote: ‘May u rest in peace my dear Sawaan ji. Have always loved n respected u.’ For more news and updates, stay tuned to ETimes.
