After big celebs like Amitabh Bachchan, Vijay Deverakonda and Raveena Tandon, Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao has promised to take stern action against those who create such clips while speaking at a recent event. Addressing Rashmika’s viral video controversy, Rao reportedly said ‘I saw it in the news about what happened to Rashmika Mandanna. It’s truly atrocious to demean her and to go after someone like her who’s a celebrity. It’s deeply insulting and infuriating. Whatever regulations are to be brought, whatever stringent measures are to be brought in the form of legislation, we’re happy to bring it in our state and hopefully, the Government of India will also play along and do the same.’ The ‘Animal’ actress expressed gratitude towards Rao by sharing his statement on her Instagram Stories with a folded hands emoji. According to recent reports, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology recently also announced that anyone found guilty of such an offense may face imprisonment for up to three years and a fine of up to one lakh rupees. To give some background, Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake video recently went viral on the internet and started a much-needed discussion on Artificial Intelligence and its potential consequences in the future. The fake viral video showed Rashmika entering an elevator dressed in a black body-hugging yoga suit and smiling for the camera.
