1:02:32Now PlayingDonnie Berry joins Pastor Josh Burtram on The Faith Roundtable for a rich conversation about biblical theology, the glory of God, creation, the fall, redemption, and the unified story of Scripture.
Most Christians have heard the phrase “the glory of God,” but what does it actually mean? Is glory just honor, reputation, worship language, or giving God credit? Donnie Berry explains how the Bible presents God’s glory as the weightiness, beauty, goodness, love, justice, wisdom, and fullness of who God is.
Drawing from his book The Earth Will Be Filled: A Biblical Theology of the Glory of God, Donnie helps us see the Bible not as disconnected doctrines or isolated stories, but as one unified story of God’s redemptive purpose from Genesis to Revelation.
This conversation explores:
• what biblical theology is
• why the Bible should be read as one unified story
• what “glory” means in Scripture
• the Hebrew idea of kavod and divine weightiness
• creation, image bearing, and human vocation
• how sin distorts human dominion
• why the fall brings death into creation
• Habakkuk 2:14 and the promise that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord
• how Jesus reveals the glory of God
• why the cross is the central display of God’s glory
• how Christians participate in God’s mission of restoration
• what it means to live as people formed by God’s self-giving love
Donnie argues that the story of Scripture is a glory project: God creates the world to be filled with his glory, humanity is called to reflect that glory, sin distorts that calling, and Jesus restores us so that we can once again know God, reflect his character, and participate in his redemptive work in the world.
If you want to understand the Bible more deeply, read Scripture as one unified story, or better grasp what Christians mean when we talk about the glory of God, this conversation is for you.
Donnie Berry serves as Instructor of New Testament and Biblical Theology with Training Leaders International, where he helps equip pastors and Christian leaders around the world. He is the author of The Glory of God and the Unified Purpose of God in Redemptive History and The Earth Will Be Filled: A Biblical Theology of the Glory of God.
