56:57Now PlayingWhat does it actually mean to read the Bible with the Holy Spirit?
In this episode of The Faith Roundtable, Pastor Josh Burtram talks with Allie Patterson, teaching pastor at Crossroads Church in Cincinnati and author of Spirit-Led Bible Study: Six Practices to Bring the Bible to Life.
Many Christians want to understand Scripture more deeply, but they feel stuck, confused, intimidated, or unsure how to move beyond surface-level reading. Others have been taught strong Bible study methods but struggle to connect those methods with the living presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Allie Patterson offers a practical and spiritually grounded approach to Bible study that honors both the meaning of the text and the active work of God’s Spirit. Together, Josh and Allie discuss how to ask better questions of Scripture, why context matters, how to avoid reading your own feelings into the Bible, and how God meets us through honest, humble engagement with his Word.
Topics include:
How to read the Bible with the Holy Spirit
Why context matters in Bible study
How to ask better questions of Scripture
The danger of making the Bible mean whatever we want
How feelings can shape, but not determine, interpretation
Why humility is essential for reading Scripture well
How the Holy Spirit brings the Bible to life
Why many Christians feel stuck in Bible reading
How pastors and small groups can help people engage Scripture
The difference between personal application and biblical meaning
If you want to grow in Bible study, spiritual discernment, Christian formation, and a deeper love for Scripture, this conversation will help you approach the Bible with both rigor and openness to the Holy Spirit.
