Fox News Stands By Election Coverage After Getting Hit With $1 6 Billion Lawsuit

Fox News has been hit with a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems, and they still haven't learned their lesson. On Friday morning, the network released a statement actually DEFENDING their coverage of the 2020 election, including all of the lies that they spread about Dominion. On Friday, Fox news was slapped with a $1.6 billion lawsuit from dominion voting systems for all the lies that the networks spread about the company in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election. Now Fox news had already been sued by smart Maddock Hey company that makes voting software for the false claims that they allowed to air on their network and Fox news, instead of issuing apologies, issuing retractions to all of this, no, they issued a statement on Friday doubling down on their coverage of the election. The statement said this Fox news media is proud of our 2020 election coverage, which stands in the highest tradition of American journalism and will vigorously defend against this baseless lawsuit in court.

Ah, I see your statement there, um, that actually might cause you even more troubled depending on your defense. And here's why earlier this week we saw Sidney Powell, Donald Trump's lawyer, or lawyer working on behalf, blah, blah, blah, whatever it is, she was connected to them, whether they wanted to admit it or not either way. Her lawyers tried to argue in court that no reasonable person would take her claim seriously, or as statements of fact. And as I mentioned at the time, that was actually the Fox news defense. That's what Fox news has trotted out when they have been sued for defamation in the past, they have said, well, Hey, no reasonable individuals going to take these opinion, hosts as fact opinion hosts. That's the key there. These are people giving their opinions and Fox news has used that and actually been successful with it in the past.

But then you release a statement saying the highest tradition of American journalism, journalism opinion. Those are two different things in the world of defamation lawsuits. Those are two very different things. See, we can give our opinion all day long, right? We can say, in my opinion, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, because that's just your opinion. You're allowed to have an opinion, but when you categorize it as journalism and you say, this is a fact, because that is what journalism is by definition. Then suddenly you've just opened yourself up to a world of pain, a world of roughly $1.6 billion worth of pain. If the lawsuit is successful, this statement was really, really stupid for Fox news to put out, especially considering the in fact they had been warned, right? You can't just immediately file this defamation lawsuit. You have to give the other party time in a situation like this, which dominion did to issue corrections issue retractions to make a public apology, yada yada yada Fox news.

Didn't do it. They did it a little bit with smart MADEC, but not good enough. And that's why they still got sued. So here we are now. And instead of saying, Hey listen, okay, maybe we said some things, maybe we allowed things to be said on the air. And if you phrase it that way, by the way, you can kind of avoid admitting that you did it just saying, Hey, things were set on our airwaves. You don't even have to say who, but Nope. They said, listen, American journalism. We're the highest pinnacle of it with our reporting and well, dang buddy, you may have just lost your case with that one word. Believe it or not folks, sometimes all it takes is one word. When you change it from opinion to journalism, that's a different animal in the eyes of the law. And that makes it a lot easier for dominion to win this case.
