Democrats Fear Annihilation In Midterms From Republican Voter Suppression

Democratic strategists across the country are sounding the alarm bells about the Republican voter suppression bills that have been passed all over the country. They understand that in many of these places the margins were razor-thin in 2020, and any suppression would likely lead to a Republican victory. This is what Republicans wanted, and Democrats are finally starting to understand how devastating it will be. Farron Cousins discusses this.

A new report from Politico shows that democratic strategists across the country are in full-blown panic mode right now, because they're starting to understand that all those Republican voter suppression bills, the ones that have been passed and the ones that are still poised to pass later this year. Yeah. That's going to royally screw over the democratic party in the 2022 midterms, Georgia is a prime example of this. And by the way, Politico actually spoke to, I think about three dozen democratic strategists from all over the country, right? This isn't one or two individuals saying we're screwed. No, it's dozens of them saying, oh my God, we're in trouble. And I'll get to why they're really in trouble in just a moment. But let's talk about Georgia for just a moment. Georgia led the way, right? They were off. After the state went blue, they lost their two Republican senators replaced with two democratic senators. So they were the first state to really pass their voter suppression laws. You can't even give people a drink of water while they're waiting in line to vote less. You risk going to jail, voter ID requirements and all of that in there, even though, um, what's the number 270,270,000 eligible Georgia voters do not have identification. What does that do in a state

That was won by only 12,000 votes? We all know exactly what that does in a state that was won by only 12,000 votes, Arizona, same type of thing. If they pass voter suppression laws, Democrats are screwed. Same thing could happen in, you know, any of the Midwest states controlled by Republicans, Florida has already followed suit. Texas has followed suit, basically the areas where you see shifting demographics, changing the electorate from red to blue, that's where you're going to see your biggest voter suppression efforts. And that's where we do see them right now. And Republicans know that suppressing these voters keeping hundreds of thousands of people away, or in some cases, only a few thousand people away that can change the outcome of an election, keeping Republicans in power to fight another day to suppress another day. Really? So why is all this important? Why are Democrats just now freaking out? Because I think just a couple months ago, Democrats thought the federal government was going to be able to pass their for the people act undo all of this voter suppression make voting by mail, more commonplace and easier to do. But unfortunately, because Democrats are unwilling to kill the filibuster. They know now these strategists across the country who were freaking out, they know now that that's not going to be a reality, the cavalry ain't coming

Still in place. The, for the people act has a 0% chance of passing it. Ain't going to happen. So what to do now, right? Well, right now Democrats are panicking. You know, that's their first go-to move is, oh my God, what do we do? The white house came out last week and said, what if we just tell people to make sure you get out there and vote? You know, they're trying to suppress you. So make sure you just show up instead. Yeah. Listen telling people to just don't be suppressed. Not exactly the killer strategy you think it might be. And trust me, I know I've actually suggested that we have to outnumber the suppression basically, but I'm not in a position where I can literally undo their laws. Okay. So it's okay for me to say that Biden you're in a position where you could call every Democrat into the Senate and say, by God, kill the filibuster, or I'm going to your state. And I'm in a pro uh, campaign for your primary opponent. You could use your power to force them to do the right thing, to get the good legislation. I don't have that power. So yes, we are left with the strategy of just don't be suppressed.
