Trump Wanted To Trade Puerto Rico For Greenland

Donald Trump floated the idea of trading Puerto Rico to Denmark in exchange for Greenland, according to a new book. Trump had many problems with the leadership of Puerto Rico because they called him out over his poor response to Hurricane Maria, and we've heard numerous stories about his obsession with obtaining Greenland. But this story just shows the insanity that filled the Trump White House, as Farron Cousins explains.

Well folks, we've got even more to talk about from the book due out tomorrow, called the divider it's by, uh, uh, reporters, Peter Baker and Susan Glasser. And this one, a little weird, because according to these authors, Donald Trump floated the idea of trading Denmark, giving them Puerto Rico in exchange for them giving us Greenland. Now it actually makes sense. Not, not that he wanted to trade the two countries, but that these were things he was interested in because one, we know that for a very long time, Donald Trump wanted Greenland, right? He wanted that to be a part of the United States. And, and according, uh, to the reason for that is Donald Trump said, quote, I love maps. And I always said, look at the size of this. It's massive. That should be part of the United States. You know, I'm sure Sigma Freud would probably have quite a lot to say about your preoccupation with size.

And by the way, Donald, none of what he would say would be flattering to you. It would probably be along the lines of how stormy Daniels described you. But we also know that in addition to wanting Greenland, we also know Donald Trump hated Puerto Rico. We learned that the hard way, and as did the residents of Puerto Rico after hurricane Maria, when Donald Trump went down there and threw paper towels at people, and then was roundly criticized by basically the entire leadership governor and mayors in Puerto Rico for his completely lackluster response to hurricane Maria, he withheld, uh, congressional emergency funds from the island, the us territory. These are us citizens withheld emergency funds from them because they him off. Cuz they didn't like how he responded to them. So of course, right? Like it totally stands to reason that he would later on be like, well, let's give him this place and we'll take big old Greenland, cuz it's just so big. Right?

One of the people in his cabinet, according to the book, pushing for Donald Trump to obtain Greenland was none other than John Bolton, right? National security advisor and a guy who's never met a country. He didn't wanna bomb. And that's pretty much why John Bolton wanted Greenland cuz Bolton's in Donald. Trump's here again. According to the book telling him that, Hey, China's increasing their presence in the Arctic. Wouldn't it be great if we had this big old island there because it's so big and we could put military there and then we'd, you know, scare off China and we'd be, oh, look at us. We're over here with this massive giant island filled with us, military soldiers, troops. Maybe we use it as a training area who knows, but basically as a way to flex our muscle to show the world how big we are, right Donald doesn't that sound good? And maybe that's when Donald Trump said, Hey, what

If we, we just give him Puerto Rico, right? I was just down there. The place is a mess. I gave him some paper towels. I don't even know if they used them the whole point of this cuz obviously this trade never happened. Thank God. But the whole point of this story, the reason I'm even talking about it is to show you how insane this man was while he was in office. Right. We already saw the bad policies. Okay. We know all about that. We know about the trade war. We know about the immigration policies we know about all the horrible things he said at his rallies, but it's the behind the scenes, just sheer insanity. And, and I can't think of a better word to describe it. Like this man was mentally unstable. There's even reports by the way, possibly from this book, I can't remember where it was from, but there were reports that some cabinet officials were already talking about the 25th amendment amendment in his first year in office, like within the first year before most of the horrible things happened, they looked at him and said, this guy's nuts. He can't do the job, but they let him keep doing it anyway. And that's why we get little tidbits like this. That's why we get those doctored hurricane maps, where he took his Sharpie and just extended the cone of uncertainty because he was nuts. And that's just all the more reason to make sure that this man never, ever, ever, ever, ever gets back into the white house.
