4:20Now PlayingDonald Trump said that he was coming back to the United States in order to "confront" E. Jean Carroll, but he knew when he made the comments that his ability to do so in court was no longer an option. But the judge decided to troll Trump, and has given him until Sunday evening to declare whether he wants to testify, and the judge will postpone closing arguments to let him do so. In other words, the time is now for Trump to put up or shut up, as Farron Cousins explains.

Trump made a big showing this week to end his trip to Ireland and Scotland a little bit early. He was having fun playing golf at his golf courses, and he was so mad cuz he said he had to go back to the United States and confront this woman that has been lying about him. Apparently for years, he alleges that woman, of course, is Eugene Carol. But what's interesting about Trump's comments, I gotta go back and, and, and confront this woman. He actually made that statement once it was too late for him to actually confront her in court. And he knew that like, there's no way, he didn't know what the timeline of the trial was. So he waited until the point where his lawyer announced, Joe Taina, we are not calling any witnesses for the defense. We're not presenting any evidence for the defense. We are done.
And the judge said, all right, we're done, jury, you're off on Friday, we're gonna go over jury selection or not jury selection, jury orders and instructions with the plaintiffs and the defense lawyers on Friday. That on Monday 10:00 AM we're doing closing statements. And once all that was settled, Trump came out and said, from, you know, Ireland, oh, I gotta get back and confront her, knowing it was too late for him to do that. So what the judge did Thursday evening at 5:00 PM issued, I guess what you would call an emergency ruling. And he said, well, hold up folks. We got a new development here. Turns out the defense might actually have somebody that they want to call as a witness, and they're entitled to do that. So I am now amending the court schedule pending Donald Trump confirming that he is going to come in and actually testify in this trial.
So the judge had to put on hold the plans that were already in place and gave Trump until 5:00 PM on Sunday. So a total of 72 hours between when the order was issued and when Trump has to give an answer about whether or not he's gonna come and testify, Trump thought he was in the clear, he thought he could make these comments and be the big bad guy. Like, I'm gonna confront her and then come back and be like, oh darn, it's too late for me to do it. That's how mean the court is to me. And the judge was like, you won't play games. I'll play games. You want to come testify? You want to confront her? Come on, I'll delay, I'll extend, I'll do whatever you wanna do, bud. It's your trial. You're the star. Why don't you come on in and let us hear your side of the story for once you've been absent throughout the entire thing. You've, you've been playing golf, you've been traveling the globe, you did a campaign rally, you've done views. So if you want me to extend this little trial for you, I'll do that. I will gladly do that.
So Trump has until 5:00 PM on Sunday to announce whether or not he wants to testify. And I gotta tell you, judge Lewis Kaplan overseeing this trial, I'm impressed because that is a level of trolling because let's be honest, this is trolling him. Like, oh, you oh, oh, you want to come testify? Come on testify, come on, confront her. She's right here. She's in my courtroom. I'll push everything back. Come on in, bud. You said you wanted to. What are you waiting for? He is baiting this man into coming and testifying, which the whole reason Trump didn't testify. The same reason he didn't show up for the trial is because his legal team knew that that would be a disaster. But now Trump's been put on the spot. He's on international media saying he's gonna confront this woman. If he doesn't, he's a coward. If he does, he's screwed. There's no good way out of this for Donald Trump. And the judge knew it and that's why he told him put up, we're shut up.
