Marjorie Taylor Greene Cries About 'Scary' Drag Queens Lobbying Congress

A group of drag performers went to Congress this week to lobby lawmakers to include protections for the LGBTQ community in federal civil rights legislation. This didn't sit well with Marjorie Taylor Greene, and she got on social media to cry about the "scary" drag performers who she continues to accuse of manipulating children, although that doesn't happen. Greene is just showing off her ignorance and bigotry, as Farron Cousins explains.

This week, several drag performers showed up to lobby members of Congress to pass the Equality Act, which of course would extend federal civil rights protections to individuals based on sexual orientation, essentially making the entire L-G-B-T-Q community protected by federal civil rights legislation. Right, should be a very simple thing. And three drag performers showed up in Congress, met with several Democratic members of Congress, but they didn't meet with Marjorie Taylor Green. And maybe that's what set Marjorie Taylor Green off. But either way, she was furious about the fact that these drag performers showed up to talk to members of Congress. But before we get into Marjorie Taylor Greene's statement, it's important to give a little context here. One of these drag performers goes by the name of Bridget Bandit appeared on CNN after they had gone and spoken to members of Congress. And this is what Bridget Bandit said.

We already see so many attacks on our community. I already don't feel safe in my own hometown, just dressed in drag like this. And it's very scary for people to exist in a time where we see this kind of rhetoric being pushed by our lawmakers and the people who should care about other issues that actually affect the American people other than attacking our community. So pretty cut and dry, right? Congress should be doing things that actually help the American public, but instead they're busy attacking us. Like we're not a threat to anybody. And Bridget Bandit pointed out, it's scary for us. We do get death threats, but that's when Marjorie Taylor Greene chimed in, got on social media and said this, no. What's scary is men pretending to be women reading gender cult lying books to our children, provocatively dancing near nude, uh, nearly nude and public spaces, and taking over our bathroom sports and private spaces, women and children need protection from them.

Of all the threats to women and children in this country, um, drag queens and transgender individuals do not pose those threats. Nah, the biggest threats to our children probably come within organized religion or based on reports over the last couple years from the Republican Party itself, where these people are in fact preying on children. And not to mention the, the guns that overwhelmingly kill our children in school. Those are the things you should be worrying about. And of course, that's what Bridget Bandit was trying to say. And instead, Marjorie Taylor Greene tries to say, no. What's scary are the scary drag queens out there? Ooh, I have to check under my bed every night to make sure there's a drag queen not hiding there because I'm so scared, so scared. Marjorie Taylor Greene says she is. There are real threats facing this country. Drag queens are not one of them. The L-G-B-T-Q community is not one of those threats. The threats are coming from organized religion that is

Overwhelmingly preying on our children. The threats are coming from inside the Republican party who wanna force their religion. That same religion that's abusing those children onto the children in public schools, that's a threat to the kids. The guns that you guys refuse to do anything about that are killing those kids while they're sitting through math class, that's a threat to them. That's scary. But a transgender individual playing a sport that, that, that doesn't matter. That doesn't matter to anybody really, honestly. And here's the kicker, Marjorie Taylor Green accused Bridget Bandit, of course, of being a man pretending to be a woman, when in fact Bridget Bandit is a non-binary individual that was actually assigned female at birth. So you are not even right with your critique of this particular individual. But congratulations, you did show your ignorance and bigotry in this, which is what Marjorie Taylor Greene apparently is best at.
