3:25Now PlayingA Maryland man is frustrated with a $250 parking ticket from the District. The issue? The man says he wasn't in D.C. the day the ticket was issued and he doesn't own the car connected to the ticket.
Jon Rasmussen got a shocking notice in the mail several weeks ago. It was a notice of an "unsatisfied" parking ticket from the District of Columbia informing him that on May 4, his Honda sedan had been parked illegally on private property without consent on Maine Avenue, SW.
The fine was $250 and because the ticket had not been paid promptly, there was an extra penalty of $250, so he owed the city $500.
We asked Mr. Rasmussen why he did that. Here's how our conversation went:
Henrehan: "Why'd you do it?"
Rasmussen: "I didn't."
Henrehan: "But, it says here that Honda was parked on private property without consent."
Rasmussen: "I don't own a Honda. Nor do I own the vehicle with the tag number that's listed on the citation."
Henrehan: "So, that's not your car?"
Rasmussen: "No sir."
Henrehan: "That license plate?"
Rasmussen: "It's not my license plate."
In fact, Rasmussen drives a Chrysler 300 sedan, and he says he wasn't even in D.C. on May 4.
