15:15A DoorDash driver mistakenly drove onto the tarmac at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on May 17, after passing through a security checkpoint without issue.
Surveillance footage from the Chicago Department of Aviation shows the driver being stopped by airport officials as he drove alongside parked aircraft near Terminal 1.
According to a case report, the driver said he was attempting to deliver food to Terminal 5 and believed he was following a public road. He entered the restricted area by trailing a truck along the GPS route and passed a security hut where no personnel were clearly visible.
The report also noted that a security guard was present when the vehicle entered the airfield but did not intervene. She closed the gate behind the car, later describing the situation as “strange and unfamiliar,” and was unable to alert her supervisor due to not having a radio.
The driver was escorted off the airfield after an inspection, and no arrests were made, according to the Chicago Department of Aviation.
