According to the Department of Homeland Security, the confrontation began after a vehicle pursuit and the arrest of two subjects, when a crowd formed and became hostile. Agents deployed tear gas as a crowd control measure, and the Chicago Police Department reported 13 of its officers were exposed to the chemical agent.
State Senator Elgie Sims issued a statement condemning the use of the chemical agent to disperse the crowd.
