Authorities arrested 402 people in the area as crowds engaged in “increasingly dangerous and unlawful behaviour” including setting off fireworks, according to the City of Newport Beach.
“Our officers remained focused on one priority throughout the evening, protecting our community and restoring public safety,” Newport Beach Police Chief Dave Miner said.
