Theists often claim that atheism is depressing, hopeless, nihilistic, and so on. They claim that life is meaningless without God or an afterlife, and that objective purpose is the only kind that matters. I take issue with those claims. With the help of Steve from Rationality Rules, I respond to the questions: Do atheists live meaningful lives? How do atheists create their own purpose? Can atheists be happy?
I’m an atheist living a meaningful, happy life, and I don’t want those questioning their faith to hesitate out of fear. “I’m afraid to be an atheist” or “Living without God is pointless” are concerns I’ve heard from my own friends who were questioning.
