13:50Now PlayingThere's some good news and some not so good news when it comes to today's March 11 coronavirus update:
-Worldwide confirmed cases are at 126,611, with today's death toll up 200 from yesterday
-66.894 recovered patients
-120 cases now have confirmed cases (up from 115 yesterday)
-Good news: the percent of patients needed hospitalization is down 7 percent, staying at 12 right now
BUT, hospitals still don't have enough doctors, resources, beds, or equipment for 12 percent of the country. THAT'S why health officials are warning Americans to stay home. Even if COVID 19 is mostly effecting the elderly, YOU will be elderly one day and that portion of our population deserves to be taken care of. We cannot let our medical systems be overwhelmed, like what's happening to Italy today. Italy's fatality rate is currently at 5 percent, likely because Italy has the largest elderly population in Europe.
Even though numbers ARE looking better every day, the U.S. is about to hit a tidal wave of new cases (we're at 1,115 confirmed cases today). You WILL know someone in the US who gets coronavirus. Things WILL calm down, but possibly not for the next 50-60 days.
New Rochelle, New York now has a one mile containment zone from the National Guard. Schools will continue to close, travel will continue to plummet, and you may find yourself working from home. Your life WILL be altered in the coming days.
