CHARGES/PENALTIES:
The State of New Mexico charged Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter of Halyna Hutchens. In this context, involuntary manslaughter occur if a person is engaging in a lawful act but unintentionally kills someone by being negligent or not exercising due care. Involuntary manslaughter is classified as a fourth-degree felony with sentencing up to 18 months in prison and probation.
WHAT HAPPENED SO FAR:
State and Defense gave middling opening statements. State offered first witness. Former Deputy Nicholas Lefleur who introduced body cam footage from his arrival on scene after Halyna was shot. He is in the middle of cross.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Continued cross/redirect of Lefleur and additional State witnesses.
TRIAL LENGTH:
The Court informed potential jurors they should anticipate a trial in excess of one week.
