33:04Now PlayingYasmine Mohammed was raised in a fundamentalist Muslim household in Vancouver, Canada. At 19, she was forced to marry a member of Al Qaeda. When she became pregnant, she planned a daring escape to save her daughter from the same fate. Her mother threatened to have her killed for leaving.
Now Yasmine is one of the world's most prominent advocates for persecuted freethinkers and women escaping religious oppression. Her book Unveiled: How the West Empowers Radical Muslims has been translated into 16 languages, and she's the founder of Free Hearts Free Minds, the only nonprofit dedicated to supporting the mental health of freethinkers and LGBT people from Muslim communities worldwide.
On February 1st, 2026, Yasmine is taking No Hijab Day live for the first time. We talk about her story, why she founded the day, and what she wants the world to understand about the women risking everything to remove the veil.
