Case background: On June 14th, 2015, Claudine "Dee Dee" Blanchard was found dead in her bedroom in Green County, Missouri after suffering 17 stab wounds. Her daughter, who was believed to be terminally ill and wheelchair bound, was nowhere to be seen. Police eventually tracked down her alleged boyfriend, Nick Godejohn, in Wisconsin, and found Gypsy with him. Both were arrested and charged with the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard.
Dee Dee mentally and physically abused Gypsy for her whole life, convincing her and everyone else that she was terminally ill, suffered from muscular dystrophy, severe asthma, visual and hearing impairments, seizures, had stunted development, needed a feeding tube, oxygen tank, a variety of medications, etc. Gypsy was forced to be wheelchair bound since she was 8 years old, was isolated and home-schooled, was told that she was 4 years younger than she actually was, was never allowed to entertain the thought of dating or getting married, and was controlled, starved and abused by her mother until she was murdered in 2015. Family believes that Dee Dee was responsible for the death of her own mother, Emma (starvation), and that she tried to poison her stepmother with weed killer. She spent her life committing fraud and forgery, concocting elaborate stories about her ex-husband and Gypsy's medical condition, and profited off a lot of her actions.
Gypsy was sentenced to 10 years in prison in July 2015 after accepting a plea deal, pleading guilty. She is now 32 years old and has served 85% of her sentence, qualifying her for early release. She has been at the Chillicothe Correctional Center since her sentencing, and got married in prison on June 27th, 2022 to Ryan Scott Anderson, who is from Lake Charles, Louisiana. She has also written a book, which is expected to be released in January 2024.
Her ex-boyfriend, Nick Godejohn was found guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in November 2018 and in February 2019 was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder charge plus 25 years for the armed criminal action charge.
