YouTube Description
as posted by the channelGabby Petito was an inspiring 22-year-old woman traveling across the USA in July 2021 with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie in a van that they had converted, and was documenting all of their adventures. On August 12th, 2021, Gabby and Brian were stopped by the Moab police after onlookers observed a domestic dispute between them, where it was reported that he was slapping her...Gabby was last seen alive near the Grand Teton National Park on August 27th, 2021. The person who police incorrectly identified as the victim in the incident ended up escalating his abuse and killed her, leaving her body at the campsite they last stayed at.
When Gabby's family could not get hold of her, she was reported missing on September 11th, 2021. They soon learned that Brian had returned to Florida in her van without her, refusing to talk to anyone, unless it was through his attorney. While her case became a media frenzy and everyone was looking for her, Brian 'disappeared' as well. Gabby's body was discovered near the Spread Creek dispersed camp on September 19th, 2021; she died from blunt force trauma and manual strangulation. Brian's remains were discovered near the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park on October 20th, 2021; he had died from a self-inflicted g*nshot wound to the head and left a horrifying, deceitful narrative of what happened through notebooks found near his remains.
The case highlighted issues of domestic violence, particularly coercive control, as revealed through texts, journals, and witness accounts. Gabby’s parents, Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt, pursued legal action against Brian’s parents and their attorney for allegedly knowing more than they admitted, though these lawsuits have faced mixed outcomes. The Gabby Petito Foundation was established to support missing persons cases and raise awareness about abusive relationships.
A 3part Netflix documentary released on February 17th, 2025 added new personal details and insightful new evidence, which we are discussing together in a livestream today. If you want to know more about the case, here's the playlist for you
